GPA Conversion FAQ
How do I convert my GPA to a 4.0 scale?
Select your school's grading scale (for example a percentage out of 100, a 10-point CGPA, or the Canadian 4.3 scale), enter your grade, and the calculator returns the equivalent on the US 4.0 scale. Percentage conversions use standard admissions banding (90%+ ≈ 4.0, 85% ≈ 3.7, and so on); point scales are converted proportionally.
Why do schools in different countries use different GPA scales?
Grading conventions are national. The US uses a 4.0 scale, Canada often a 4.3, India a 10-point CGPA or percentage, and much of Europe a percentage or local letter system. There is no single global standard, so a conversion is needed whenever you compare a grade across systems — which is exactly what admissions committees do.
Is a converted GPA exact?
No conversion is exact, because grading distributions differ between institutions and countries. A converted GPA is a close approximation suitable for understanding roughly where you stand. Admissions offices and credential-evaluation services apply their own conversion, so treat the result as a guide, not an official figure.
What is a good GPA on the 4.0 scale?
On a 4.0 scale, 3.9+ is exceptional, 3.7+ is strong and competitive at top schools, 3.5+ is good at many schools, and 3.0 is average and usually needs strong test scores to offset. Competitiveness always depends on the specific school and program — compare your converted GPA against each school's admitted-student medians.
